Jerry Garcia's untimely death ended a long-lived musical reign. His band, The Grateful Dead, emerged as a model for the 1960's subculture. The masterful musical group spent four decades blending folk, blues, and gospel music with various forms of rock.

Loyal fans of Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead, known as "The Deadheads" followed the group on tour from city to city - die hard devotees that lived the group's collective credo of peace and tolerance. Perhaps that is the reason why the Grateful Dead remained the most popular concert attraction in the United States.

This is his story; from the formative years, the highs and lows of Garcia; and the band's history through the death of Garcia and the memorials that followed.
